What is Federation?

How would it be if you could simply find contacts in other authorities and write to them directly in a chat message? If cross-authority collaboration in chat-based rooms was as easy as within your own authority? That is the goal of Federation in BundesMessenger.

Federation enables collaboration between different authorities using BundesMessenger. You always decide yourself which options can be used across authorities and which cannot; and of course, everything is secure and encrypted – as with all of BundesMessenger.

Maybe you are familiar with some of these challenges:

  • You are looking for a contact in another authority but only know the name and have to ask around via the central office? And hopefully your contact’s name is not Michael MĂĽller.
  • You are working with another authority, but for joint communication you only have emails with large distribution lists and file attachments?
  • You want to quickly coordinate with a contact person in another authority but are currently on the train and calling isn’t really an option?

Federation in BundesMessenger offers answers to these situations. On the next page we will show you how it all works.

Can I already use Federation in my authority?

Section titled Can I already use Federation in my authority?

Federation is currently in the setup phase and only available in individual organizations. We will keep you updated here on when Federation will be available for all participating authorities.

Each authority then decides individually whether and with which authority it wants to use Federation with BundesMessenger. By the way, you and your colleagues also decide whether and to what extent you want to use Federation, for example in individual rooms.
